Kite Festival

The last time I posted, it was wet, freezing and we were making snowballs.
Today it was sunny and clear with a high of 82.
We celebrated the arrival of Spring in Austin by attending the annual Zilker Park Kite Festival this morning.  We only lasted a little over an hour, but it was a great one.

Our [...]

better late

than never.  Because that’s how we roll in this house these days.  Santa photos from BW Christmas in the Park:

Happy 4th

On the morning of the 4th we walked in the North Shoal Creek Neighborhood Parade with our friends Cheri, Jeff, and Beck–Cheri was kind enough to take the photo above for us.  We had a great time being outside in spite of the heat, reconnecting with several other friends in the neighborhood, and enjoying all [...]

new public library

This morning Nathan and I took the babies to the grand opening ceremony for our new neighborhood public library, the North Village branch of the Austin Public Library.

The library has created some fantastic space for our community there, and we’ll definitely be back.  There’s a great kids’ section, with plenty of open space.  There’re plenty [...]

thinking of Ike

The infant son of previously mentioned Haiku Mama is about to go into surgery this morning.  Ike was born prematurely at 28 weeks, and after being at home for a few precious months, is now suffering from severe breathing problems.  As if the Universe hadn’t heaped enough shit on this family already, Ike’s dad was [...]

Ben and Beck

Ben and his friend Beck playing toys yesterday afternoon:

(Oof, if only there was a volume control for the music on that busy ball popper.)

update

The babies and I have almost made it through our first full week at home without Nathan.  He returned to work on Monday after having nearly a month off for the babymoon.  The babies and I are doing ok.  We’re all waiting a little longer than we’d like at times for food, diapering (in my [...]

The Free Radicals

A couple of months ago, our 2007AustinMamas group formed a childcare/pre-school co-op called the Free Radicals.  Ben and I belong to the Friday morning contingent of the group: every Friday morning six mom-and-baby pairs meet up at First UU Church of Austin to play.  Two of the six moms stay with the kids, and the [...]

I voted

I voted early on Wednesday! Damn, it felt good to cast a vote for Barack Obama. Surreal, almost. I took Ben with me to witness the democratic process in action–big thanks to the sweet grandpa-type election volunteers who smiled at him and picked up the toys he threw on the floor while I marked my [...]

Labor Day weekend

Saturday was more of the miserable same described in the last post.  But by Sunday, Ben was finally feeling better, so we met friends for pizza at Mangia on Saturday afternoon.  (Ben tried a few tiny bites of the pizza and seemed to like.)
On Labor Day morning I made minestrone with veggies freshly harvested from [...]
