Last Friday we bought a house. It’s a 2-story, 4-bedroom house in a family-friendly neighborhood, still somewhat centrally located, and very close to Nathan’s work. It’s on a small lot shaded by lots of lovely oaks. It’s the house we plan to raise our children in. But, it must be said, that it needs a little love. We closed on Friday morning, and remodeling began on Saturday morning. Here are a few before photos:

The kitchen. I can’t wait to make our first big breakfast in this room, to fill the house with the smells of coffee and pancakes and the sounds of kiddos laughing.

The breakfast area. That wallpaper was so retro it was almost chic. Almost.

The living room.

Formal dining room w/ salmon pink paint below the chair rail molding.

Toilet in the upstairs bathroom. This is one of the more special wallpapers in the house–so glad I got the photo while it was still on the wall. And the previous owner was kind enough to leave us some old, pink, stained bath mats, too.

The upstairs bedrooms. The house was built in 1977. Pretty sure all the carpet is original.

Stairs and the front door.
We’re painting and having new flooring installed throughout. We’re planning to replace a sink, and the ballusters and bannister on the stairs. Of course there’s lots of cleaning to do–this house is going to be a completely different space in the space of about a month. But I can see it, hear it, smell it. I’ve chosen paint colors and carpet and a spot in the backyard for raised veggie beds. Nathan and I both are looking forward to welcoming our community of friends and family into the house at a big housewarming party in a couple of months, looking forward to filling the house with love and light and friendship and community. Blessings, lots of blessings on this house. And the humble request that we not have any more plumbing surprises while we’re remodeling.

Congrats!
You should post some pictures of the outside of the house, too.
