The infant son of previously mentioned Haiku Mama is about to go into surgery this morning. Ike was born prematurely at 28 weeks, and after being at home for a few precious months, is now suffering from severe breathing problems. As if the Universe hadn’t heaped enough shit on this family already, Ike’s dad was recently laid off. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts this morning. As a mom of a preemie myself, all I can think as I follow their story is, my god, that could’ve been us. I cried lots for them yesterday morning. I don’t know why we’ve been so fortunate, while Ike and his mama have suffered so much. Stay strong, little spirit baby. Be at peace when you can, mama Kari. I believe there’s a reason Ike chose you.
