update

The babies and I have almost made it through our first full week at home without Nathan.  He returned to work on Monday after having nearly a month off for the babymoon.  The babies and I are doing ok.  We’re all waiting a little longer than we’d like at times for food, diapering (in my case going to the bathroom), and attention.  We’ve all cried at times.  But we’re getting better at this each day, I think.  I even managed a trip to the grocery store with Ben and Maddie earlier in the week.  Of course, they were both having meltdowns in the backseat by the time we pulled into the driveway at home, so not sure when I’ll attempt that by myself again.

We’ve been so well supported by our friends and communities since Maddie’s birth.  We’ve only had to put together a handful of meals for ourselves–the vast majority of our food over the past month has been gifted to us, by the fabulous Austin Mamas and other friends.  All the visits, phone calls, and congratulatory emails that we’ve received have been sources of strength for us, too.  It really does take a village, and ours is amazing.

Now in the New Year we’re going to be learning how to feed ourselves again, and we’re going to be taking back the primary responsibility of maintaining our connections with friends and community.  Wish us luck!  My lovely Madeleine wakes and wants to nurse now, so this post ends here.  The times when both babies are napping at the same time are so few, so brief.

Great job! I still have not attempted a full grocery trip with both of them by myself. And Keira was at least a few months before I even went for a quick trip. So, I’m very impressed.
